Booking Travel
Last Updated: May, 16, 2020
We're taking our travel and lodging guidance back to the drawing board considering the effects of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic on the hospitality industry. For now, please see below for our answers to some potential general questions. If you have any others, please send them to us through email or the Subscribe option on our homepage.
For now, please plan on arriving Friday, October 15th and staying until Sunday, October 17th.
FAQs
What if I have already booked flights?
Most major airlines are allowing customers to adjust already booked tickets without any fees, though refunds are harder to come by. If you booked through a travel service, you may be able to reach out to their customer service for any adjustments.
Will it be safe to travel in October?
We honestly don't know the answer to this question, which is why we're going to try traveling to Utah in July as a test run. We'll let everyone know how it goes!
When should I book flights to Utah?
Flights are actually looking remarkably cheap on most major airlines right now due to low demand. If you're sure you can join us, now might be a good time to snag some cheaper fares. Please keep in mind though that most airlines are only allowing ticket date change flexibility due to COVID-19 and don't appear to be fully refunding fares yet.
When will lockdowns end?
The federally declared Public Health Emergency will expire in late July if it isn't formally extended again. As lockdown policies differ by state, we will check the guidance for Illinois, California, and Utah before making a final decision later this year.
Did you two adopt a dog?
Yes we did. His name is Burrito.
Should I attend if I become sick?
No. Please keep an eye on your health as our date approaches as gatherings like weddings, especially with guests travelling from different locations, increase the likelihood of transmission. We will be recommending masks and will obtain plenty of hand sanitizer for the event.
Will there be dancing?
As far as we know, dancing hasn't yet been outlawed like that town in the movie Footloose, so we'll have a DJ hired. Everyone may need to pretend it's a middle school dance and dance with arms outstretched, but we'll let you know.
What are your backup plans?
We've considered everything from a partially virtual ceremony to cancelling all reservations and just eloping into nature for an isolated ceremony. If we aren't able to celebrate in person later this year, we would still get married and save the celebrations for a big first-anniversary party next year.
